Plans for a Zope 3 version?

Hi speedbird,
Do you have any plans for a Zope 3 version of zForum? I'm currently working on a Zope 3 site that needs a forum. I'm very interested so to say

Most definitely paulus, from the standpoint that zForum is mostly a big python class, porting it to Zope3 while keeping Zope2 compatibility is the aim of zForum, currently I am still reviewing code practices and standards to port the app to zope3, it is still in its early stages but it'll come up eventually..

Yeah you are right, it is probably not all to hard to port to Zope 3, merely a substantial amount of work. You really do need interfaces and zcml config file(s) but most of the rest of specific Zope 3 stuff is optional. Althought you might consider using view classes and schemas for forms. Also creating tests is easier as well.
And of course I understand you would like a common code base, even if you end up with version specific packages. It might be an idea to see if it makes sense to make it a five compatible package. However that requires at least Zope 2.8 and currently zForum will also run on older Zope 2 versions.

Correct paulus, although don't think that I intend to support legacy versions a-la-microsoft, I mean, one or two previous versions will do, zForum is currently being tested and worked on Zope 2.8.0, with plans to switch to 2.9.x soon, we'll keep an eye on the new stuff, that's for sure..

Mmm. According to the Five web site you actually can run an older version of Five in Zope 2.7 as long as Zope 3 is installed as well. Zope 2.8 and up make Five easier to use because Five as well as Zope 3 are included. So in the long run it might be an idea to use Five as the Zope 2 compatibility mechanism. Yet I guess you still want to support 2.6 for a little while longer.

Hi,
There is one next release (1.0.6) in the upcoming days, and from there zforum will be tested in Zope 2.9, hopefully 1.0.7 will be tested in that zope version..
